Patient email verification

Patient email verification

Making it easier to keep in touch with patients

We are now using safe and secure email to communicate some appointment dates or health information with our patients.

This is an optional service designed to make life easier for patients who wish to use it.

Patients will receive a verification email, which is safe and secure, if their contact details have been updated at Tauranga and/or Whakatāne Hospitals and who have an email address in our patient management system.

The verification email will ask you to confirm that the email address we have on file is correct and that you are happy for us to communicate health information with you in this way.

The safe and secure verification email will come from the following email address: Health NZ Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty – Patient Verification (donotreply@emailverification.bopdhb.health.nz)

This email is genuine and we ask you to please respond. You are also welcome to email any queries to email.verification@bopdhb.govt.nz or check our frequently asked questions below.

Thanks for your help!

When you choose to verify an email address for yourself or a family member you will be prompted for the Year of Birth for the person the verification email is addressed to.

This is a security step to check your identity and to help us ensure we have the correct person being verifed.

If you share an email address with other family members and that email address is in their contact details in our system then each person will receive a verification email addressed to their name to verify separately.

If you do not respond to the first verification email you will receive two further reminder emails 7 days apart.

You can contact us by email: email.verification@bopdhb.govt.nz to change this.

To ensure you are still happy to use the email you previously validated with us, we may recheck this with you every couple of years.

We apologise if this has happened and has caused any upset.

Sometimes there is a delay before we are notified of patients who have died, especially if they weren't living in the Bay of Plenty when they passed or if we haven't been notified by other Health Providers.   Once we aware this has happened we will update our system immediately to ensure no further verification emails are sent.

Our patient management system currently only has one email address field to use for this process so we can only verify one email address per patient.

We can however add a second email address to the comments field to advise staff to send correspondence to both email addresses.  Please let us know if this is required.
